Beads of Support

Breast Health Services colleagues create bracelets and more to fight breast cancer

“When a woman undergoing radiation treatment for breast cancer says she can’t afford a wig, it’s heartbreaking,” says mammography technician Nancy Seislove.

So Seislove and her colleagues at Breast Health Services did something about it. They created their own breast cancer awareness bracelets from multicolored beads and sold them at various fundraisers. The goal: creating a Breast Cancer Patient Emergency Fund. It supports the expenses of people who have breast cancer and can’t afford wigs or transportation to treatments. More than $4,000 has been raised so far.

The fund is just one way the Breast Health Services team supports its patients. Colleagues also participate in the annual Relay for Life walk and adopt families for the holidays. Their caring earned them a 2006 Friends of Nursing Award.
